Our Story
(Himanshu & Mili Chowfla)
Our story is simple and might resonate with yours. We are a married couple who after completing our education moved out of our small-town (Dehradun- north of India) to chase our dreams. Being the youngest in the family our move meant leaving our old parents behind. Always tried to have them join us but always failed to convince them. As life is making us more mature, we know how difficult it is to leave one’s home and one’s neighborhood. These homes are not just brick and mortar but are homes that are their wealth of memories. This is where they raised us and went through ups and downs of life. These are the neighborhood where, even though they live alone but people know them. The only downside of living alone is that we are not there at times when they struggle with small day-to-day tasks and need us. At times when they are not well there is no one local whom we can call to go and check on them.

We live in the US and there are lot of elderly living in our neighborhood. Seeing them a thought came to our mind, what if we can spend time with them. This way we can be around them, provide help when required and we can also learn from their wealth of real-life experiences. While helping them we wished there were like-minded people back in India in our neighborhood who felt the same and could help our parents.

We wanted to ensure we were solving a real-life problem. When we discussed this with our friends and colleagues who had their parents living alone, they shared similar stories. As more and more people move out of small towns to chase their dreams this problem will keep becoming more and more prevalent. So here we are working on this initiative to do something that we feel so strongly about, and which is close to our heart. As Mahatma Gandhi said, “You must be the change that you wish to see in the world”.
